National Children's Dental Health Month
February marks National Children’s Dental Health Month, sponsored by the American Dental Association to raise awareness about the importance of oral health.
Developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums. The ADA has free online resources that can help teachers and parents educate children on the importance of dental care.
The 2012 campaign features the slogan “Rock Your Smile” and can be seen on posters dedicated to the event. Visit www.ada.org/5578.aspx to download free materials on NCDHM, including children’s activity sheets, posters in English and Spanish and presentation sheets. Questions on NCDHM can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
February is also when the ADA holds Give Kids a Smile events, where tens of thousands of dentists and dental team members nationwide will provide free dental services to underserved children. Volunteers will provide screenings, educational materials and, where possible, cleanings, X-rays and fillings. It’s estimated nearly 405,000 children will take advantage of the events.
