Funny Games That Make Kids Smile

Tania K. Cowling

Kids laugh at pretty much anything, from mismatched socks to jokes that don't make sense. Engaging them in silly activities will also keep their spirits up and their smiles bright. Funny games get the wiggles out and make children happy. Here are a few to try.

Ha, Ha, Ha...

Have all the players stand in a circle. The first child says "Ha," his neighbor says "Ha, Ha," the next player says "Ha, Ha, Ha," and this continues from person to person with each player adding a "Ha" to continue the game. Remember to be serious and don't laugh. Any player who giggles or makes a mistake with his "Ha" sequence must leave the circle. The winner is the most serious of the bunch and the last one standing.

All Together--Let's Sneeze

Play this game with at least six other children. An adult assigns each player with a syllable, explaining that this is an important sound. It's best to whisper this syllable in the child's ear. Use "ash," "ish," "osh" and "choo." When everyone has their syllable, the adult leader asks all the kids to yell out their secret syllable on the count of three. When everyone shouts out their syllable, it sounds like a very loud sneeze.

The Orange Race

Gather the kids, family and friends to play this fun relay game. Divide the players into at least two equal lines. The first player in each team takes an orange and places it between his chin and neck. When the game starts, the first player must pass the orange to the next player, who only receives it via his neck and chin--no hands involved. Continue this process until the orange passes to the last player. If the orange falls to the ground, it must go back to the beginning of the line. The team who finishes first is the winner. This silly game is one of skill, but gets the giggles started with the awkward positions and faces the players make.

Laughter is part of a healthy lifestyle, so play plenty of funny games with your family and friends.
