3 Personalized Tooth Fairy Pillow Ideas

Tania K. Cowling

Get ready with a personalized tooth fairy pillow before your child's first tooth falls out. Between the ages of five and seven, children begin to lose their primary teeth; however, the timing varies with each child. This rite of passage is exciting to children as visions of the tooth fairy and her magic surround their minds. Be prepared for this childhood tradition with one of the following tooth fairy pillows.

A Flying Tooth Fairy Pillow

This flying tooth fairy pillow can be hung on a bedpost or doorknob ready for the tooth fairy's evening visit. To make it, take two pieces of white felt, one on top of the other, and cut a tooth shape (about seven inches in length). You will also need two wings and a patch pocket square from a different colored felt. Let your child choose his favorite colors. Lay one shape on top of the other and tuck in the wings, one on each side. Sew all around the tooth leaving the top open. Stuff the tooth shape with fiberfill and add a length of ribbon to make a handle. Proceed to stitch the opening shut. Finally, glue the patch pocket on the outside of the tooth pillow with fabric glue, leaving the top open for placement of the tooth and space for the magical reward. This pillow can also be glued in lieu of sewing if you wish. Lastly, don't forget to use a fabric or glitter pen to write your child's name.

Make a Colorful Toothbrush Painting Pillow

Children learn to brush their teeth with up and down, back and forth and circular motions. Cut two pieces of white fabric into a tooth shape. Have your budding artist use an old toothbrush and fabric paint to make these brushing strokes onto each tooth's surface. Use a variety of colors. When completely dry, sew or glue the two shapes together leaving the top open for easy placement of the tooth and fairy rewards. Don't forget to personalize this masterpiece using a black fabric marker. This special tooth container can be easily tucked under your child's bed pillow.

Tooth Fairy Portrait Pillow

Your child can design his own tooth fairy pillow using fabric crayons (found in most craft stores). Have your youngster draw a portrait of the tooth fairy on white copy paper. Heavily color this picture and outline the edges in black. Cut two pieces of white fabric into squares. Transfer the fairy portrait to one square using a warm iron, following the directions on the fabric crayon box. It's amazing how the picture has permanently transferred to the fabric. Proceed to sew and make a personalized tooth fairy pillow. Your youngster can set this pillow next to him at bedtime to await the tooth fairy's visit. Parents can easily remove the tooth and tape on a monetary or other surprise gift.
