Use Dental Cookie Cutters to Teach Healthy Habits
Good parents get creative when it's time to teach kids about dental health. After all, how many children want to sit down and discuss dental floss? If your kids are having a hard time learning to brush properly, get creative and use dental cookie cutters to make the learning process fun.
Creative Crafts with a Dental Cookie Cutter
If you're lucky, you may find a tooth-shaped cookie cutter at your local kitchen store. But it's more likely that you'll have to order one online. Amazon.com has several single tooth cookie cutters for sale, or you can find an entire dental cookie cutter set that includes a mouth and a toothbrush cutter as well.
Once you have your tooth cookie cutter, grab your craft supplies and let the kids have some fun. Use the cutter as a guide and let the kids trace the shape with crayons or markers on paper. Put several teeth in a row and use them as a teaching opportunity to explain how food particles get trapped between teeth. Grab a piece of floss to show them how to remove the food and plaque from their mouth.
Your dental cookie cutters can also be used to craft weekly or monthly awards. Cut tooth shapes out of construction paper using the cookie cutter as a guide. Decorate the tooth like you'd decorate a diploma and have a ceremony for each child who practices good dental habits.
Use a Dental Cookie Cutter with Food
Your tooth-shaped cutter can also be used to make fun food. Of course, you can use it to shape cookies, but the sugary treat might not send the best message about good dental habits.
Try this instead: To remind the kids to brush at school, cut their sandwiches using the tooth-shaped cutter. Pack the sandwich along with a toothbrush and floss. It will give the kids a chuckle when they are on their own at school. If you like to cook, you can even make tooth-shaped mini-pizzas.
Whichever craft you choose, you'll have fun with this simple inexpensive tool.
