Tooth fractures can involve the tooth itself (enamel and dentin are affected) or the root where a fracture has occurred. In a tooth fracture, a composite filling or a crown may be needed to resolve the problem. Less serious fractures are small cracks in the enamel and may not result in pain or sensitivity, but they may become larger. In the case of a root fracture, the root may become loose, the pulp may be affected and the root may need to be extracted.
