About Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures™
For over 40 years, Colgate has been committed to delivering oral health education
to children around the world. Today that commitment continues through Colgate's
flagship Bright Smiles, Bright Futures program, which is a multi-tiered initiative
to promote the importance of oral health through education and prevention.
The primary focus of the program is to reach children in schools through videos,
storybooks, sing-along-songs, computer CD-ROM and interactive activities - both
for educators to use in the classroom and for parents to use at home. Since
1991, this program has reached more than 46 million children in 80 countries.
By establishing partnerships between governments, dental professionals, education
professionals, schools and communities, the Bright Smiles, Bright Futures oral
health initiative enables millions of children each year to enjoy the benefits
of vital oral health education and preventive treatment.
BSBF Van Locations
BSBF has 8 mobile dental van programs that occur year-round, they are located
in:
- New York
- Atlanta
- Houston
- Chicago
- Los Angeles
- Louisville
- Cleveland
- Washington, DC.
BSBF also works with dental schools in Awareness Cities- these are cities we
only visit maybe one or two weeks each year. Awareness Cities vary from year
to year and are determined with input from our internal partners, these cities
are, but not limited to: Philadelphia, Detroit, Miami, Oakland, San Francisco,
San Diego, Kansas City, Topeka, San Antonio, Dallas, Baltimore, Memphis, Nashville,
Birmingham, Indianapolis, New Orleans, etc. Combining the year-round cities, awareness
cities and other small towns we visit in the Heartland, sometimes the BSBF program
can visit up to 110 additional cities a year.
How can you help?
BSBF vans are in operation 6 days, sometimes 7 days each week out of the year.
In each of the above cities we work with interested dental schools to
• Have students provide free education to children
• Perform non-probing dental screenings to children up to 12 years old
• Serve as a treatment referral
• Identify communities/sites for the mobile dental van to visit.
To support this partnership, we provide a community outreach donation, certificates
of appreciation to volunteers and/or an annual gift of thanks.
In most cities, we provide our monthly calendar to the dental school contact/liaison.
They will connect with the students and coordinate the schedule with our BSBF
coordinator on the van. Many dental schools have local community partnerships
where they invite the BSBF Van, these include health fairs, elementary or head
start visits. We include these stops into the monthly master calendar as well. Have Questions?
