Take stock. Two or three days before your
gathering, check your bar and beverages to make sure they
are stocked. Don’t forget mixers, such as tonic, club
soda and fruit juices, and garnishes such as lemons and
limes. Make your run to the liquor store now and add mixers,
garnishes and ice to your grocery list. Don’t forget
cocktail napkins and coasters.
Two days before. Check your music selection
and make sure the CDs are on hand or put a play list together
on an mp3 player. Also make sure you have enough glasses:
highball, wine and Champagne. If you are missing any, consider
borrowing from a friend, one that you’ve invited to
the gathering.
Day before party. Do your grocery shopping.
If your fish is in the freezer, take it out and place it
in the refrigerator to defrost. If you like, buy fresh flowers
and place in water so any closed blooms will be open in
time for the party. Take out the bowls, servewear and glasses
you’ll need. Chill wine and sodas.
One hour before party. Put out all your
food and start to fill your ice bucket.
Some yields to keep in mind:
1 bottle of Champagne = 4-5 flute glasses
1 bottle of wine = 4-6 glasses
11/2 liter bottle of wine = 8-12 glasses
1 case/12 bottles of wine = 72 glasses
