Plan ahead – Cooking for a large
amount of people is a lot of work and takes tons of preparation.
Have your menu set at least two weeks before the event.
To avoid the hustle and bustle of the holiday crowd, hit
the grocery store at least a week before the event.
Prep Perfect – Dishes like the Black-eyed
Pea Salad and the Sweet Potato Salad should be prepared
the night before to cut cooking time the day of the event.
This rule also applies to any veggies. Do all your chopping,
slicing, and julienning the night before the event.
Buffet Bonanza – If you’re
planning to set up a buffet line for your guests, make sure
that there are enough pans, holders, and sternos to keep
food at its proper temperature. Another thing to be mindful
of are utensils. Since people tend to use more than one
fork or glass, make sure there are plenty on hand to prevent
making last minute runs during the party.
Decoration Jubilee – Party favors,
streamers, and other party decorations should be picked
up at least five days before the event. If the decorations
are being custom-made, they should be ordered at least two
weeks before the event.
Champagne Wishes – New Year’s
just isn’t New Year’s without a Champagne toast
and a rousing round of “Auld Lang Syne.” Make
sure to purchase enough Champagne so everyone can have a
proper toast. Also print out the words to “Auld Lang
Syne” so your guests can sing a few more bars than
the first line.
