If you ask children to name their favorite holiday, chances are that Halloween will rank high on the list. Halloween treats for kids are an important part of this celebration. Shred some lettuce, and sprinkle it on a plate to create a web. Set a tomato slice on top of the web. Top this tomato with sliced olive eyes, a pimento nose and a corn kernel mouth. Cut or tear cheese slices into curvy strips, and place eight of these (four on each side) around the body to represent the spider's legs.
Make Jack-O'-Lantern Fruit Cups
Cut the top off an orange. Carefully scoop out the inside, and dice the fruit. Cut an apple, a banana and a pear into pieces and pick grapes from a cluster. Fill the orange cup with the fruit salad. Invite the kids to help you draw a jack-o'-lantern face on the orange skin with a black marker. Poke a toothpick inside the orange lid, and replace it on the cup as the hat.
Deviled Egg Pumpkin
To make a dozen deviled egg pumpkins, halve six hard-boiled eggs lengthwise and remove the yolk. Proceed to make the filling by mashing all the yolks in a bowl. Add one-quarter cup mayonnaise, one teaspoon yellow prepared mustard and one teaspoon vinegar. Mix in a small amount of paprika to turn the filling a pretty orange color. Fill each egg cup with this mixture, and round the mound on top. Place a small piece of green celery or green pepper as the stem.
Toast Up Some Halloween Ghosts
Make a spice mixture of cinnamon, sugar and nutmeg, and place it into a shaker jar. Give the kids a ghost cookie cutter and invite them to cut shapes from white bread. Toast the bread ghosts and smear on some cream cheese. Sprinkle the spice mixture on top for a delightful taste and add two raisins for eyes.
Spooky Vampire Smoothie
Gather your goblins and ghouls to make this fun smoothie for Halloween. Combine one cup of fresh or frozen strawberries, a couple of spoonfuls of honey, four cups of milk and a few drops of red food coloring inside a blender. Cover and blend until smooth. Serve this drink in a Halloween-themed cup.
