A Toothpaste Holder Contains the Mess

If you have little kids, you've probably gone into the bathroom and found toothpaste everywhere. It's sticky and hard to clean up, and you'd rather just not deal with the mess. Short of squeezing the toothpaste for your kids, there isn't much you can do to keep from getting globs on the sink, but a toothpaste holder in a drawer or cabinet can help cut down on the mess.

The local dollar store is a great place to find a small basket or other organizing container that works well as a holder. Choose a flat one so you can close the drawer or cabinet door, but make sure it's long enough to hold a full tube of toothpaste. Measure the area where you will be keeping the basket to make sure it will fit when you get it home. Place the basket or container in the designated area and put the toothpaste and toothbrushes into it. A basket that fills most of the area will help keep globs of toothpaste from messing up the drawer or the cabinet.

If you keep more than one toothbrush in the basket, cover each with a plastic bristle holder to prevent germs from moving between the toothbrushes. Take the holder out, empty it, and run it through the dishwasher every week or so (and you can wash the toothbrush covers at the same time.) This keeps it clean, and also ensures that it is sanitary. Buy two baskets so you have a backup when one is being washed.

A toothpaste holder is an easy way to cut down on some of the mess in your bathroom, but teaching your kids how to properly dispense toothpaste goes a long way toward keeping everything neat and clean. Help them squeeze the toothpaste from the bottom up, rather than in the middle of the tube. Show them the proper amount - about the size of a pea - which also keeps the amount of toothpaste being spread around as minimal as possible.
