I joined Colgate in Venezuela where Colgate is seen as a market leader and a company that cares. They are involved in the community and have a non-typical corporate image. Colgate offered me an opportunity to join a company in which I could develop as a person and a professional. I was attracted to the company because it offered me a strong career path and global opportunities not just for a few years, but possibly for the rest of my career.
I am currently the Category Manager for Toothpaste in the Europe/South Pacific Division; managing the on-going category strategy for Colgate's # 1 priority as well as driving business performance at the Divisional level. In this role I have the opportunity to lead the Toothpaste "Go to Market" Team to develop best in class plans and ensure excellence in implementation for new product launches as well as existing business activity across the region.
It is the culture and the camaraderie that I like most about Colgate. Colgate is a tight knit organization in which you work with people from all over the world. No matter what country you are from, what your beliefs are, or your area of expertise, Colgate people are always able to find common ground and build relationships that last.
During my career with Colgate I have developed many of the key skills necessary to be a leader in an organization and have been given an opportunity to expand my horizons in my personal life as well. Over the past 10 years I have had 6 distinct roles across functions, from sales to marketing, on 3 continents. I started my global career in the U.S. in our Global Management Development Program, which offers young managers an opportunity to work in multiple functions and gain invaluable exposure to the realities of our business. It is hard to articulate all the ways that I have grown since joining Colgate, instead I think of the growth opportunities ahead.
Amongst my most exciting projects, I had the great opportunity to drive the innovation pipeline behind the successful Colgate 360 Toothbrush, developing and launching insight based line extensions globally, such as: Colgate 360 Sensitive, Colgate 360 Deep Clean as well as extending the proven Healthy Whole Mouth Clean concept into the new Hybrid brushes platform with 360 SonicPower. This intense stream of innovation behind the brand drove Colgate 360 to the global leadership position that it enjoys today. These outstanding results could only be achieved by aligning all functions within the organization and working very closely with a talented and professional team!
Key to being successful at Colgate is to focus on the possibilities and not the obstacles, have a conviction of your ideas and be true to the Colgate values.
I would recommend a career at Colgate because of our truly diverse workplace. It is not just in our words, it is in our DNA. Working teams, whether local or remote, are truly global in their make-up and outlook. If you are looking to grow long term as a person and a professional, Colgate gives you exposure to a wide variety of people, functions, and projects. The opportunity for learning doesn't end in your 1st, 5th, or even 10th year.
