Notice under Section 20 of the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (“PDPA”) to consumers of Colgate-Palmolive (Eastern) Pte Ltd (the “Company”)

Dear Consumers,

Under the PDPA, there are various requirements that regulate the processing of your personal data as an individual (“Individual”). It informs the Individual of their rights under the PDPA, including actions Individuals may take to exercise such rights and its consequences, and in particular:-

  1. That we collect their personal data directly from you or third party sources;

  2. Purpose for which their personal data is collected;

  3. Their right to access and correct their personal data; 

  4. The class of third parties to whom we may disclose their personal data; 

  5. The choices and means they have to limit the processing of their personal data;

  6. Whether the personal data requested is obligatory or voluntary and if obligatory, the consequences for not providing such data;

  7. To update their personal data as soon as there are changes; and

  8. Our contact details if they wish to make inquiries or give feedback / unsubscribe.  


About this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy informs you about the Company’s policy and practices on data privacy matters which you may be concerned with, before you provide your personal data to the Company.

In this Privacy Policy, we will tell you:

  • what personal data is collected;

  • the purposes for which the Company uses your personal data;

  • whom your personal data may be disclosed to;

  • your rights over your personal data;

  • how to contact the Company.

1) Source of your personal data

We collect most personal data directly from you, e.g. when you fill up an application form for various purposes which requests for your personal data, including that of your directors or shareholders, if applicable. We may also verify or source personal information about you from third party sources (both public and private) such as credit reporting agencies, Companies Commission, Insolvency Department, if applicable to a particular purpose.

2) What personal data is collected 

Generally, basic personal data such as your name, email address, identity card or passport number, nationality, residential and business addresses and contact numbers may be collected. Specific personal data may be required and collected from you or third party sources for certain dealings, transactions or activities and for risk/fraud management. These are some examples:

  • when you wish to make inquiries or a complaint to our Consumer Affairs with regard to the use of any of our products or related services;

  • when you offer to provide goods and/or services to the Company, personal data relating to your qualifications, experience and expertise will be collected. The Company may also collect or seek verification of your data with the appropriate professional body and public sources;

  • when you apply for a job with the Company, personal data relating to your qualifications, employment history, your knowledge, experience and expertise will be collected;

  • where you are a director, manager, company secretary or shareholder of a company which has or intends to have any dealings, transactions or activities (including those listed above), personal data relating to your directorship, or position as manager, company secretary, or shareholding in the company will be collected.

Third party sources from whom the Company may either collect or seek verification of your personal data, including but not limited to the following:

  • your current or previous employer in relation to your income or any related data; and

  • credit bureaus or agencies which provide credit or other information;

  • public bodies (such as the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority, Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, Insolvency and Public Trustee’s Office, Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore or Singapore Land Authority.)

If the personal data is necessary to initiate any matter with the Company (e.g. product complaints with Consumer Affairs), and you refuse to provide the personal data to the Company, then the Company will not be able to proceed further with your matter.

Sensitive personal data, as defined by law, is any personal data consisting of information as to the physical or mental health or condition, political opinions, religious beliefs or other beliefs of a similar nature, the commission or alleged commission of any offence. If sensitive personal data is collected, the purpose for collecting the data will be explained to you and we will seek your consent before processing such data. 

As a parent or legal guardian, please do not allow the minor (individuals under 18 years of age) under your care to submit personal data to the Company. In the event that a minor’s personal data is provided to the Company, you, as the parent or legal guardian of the minor, hereby consent to the processing of the minor’s personal data and personally accept and agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy and take responsibility for his or her actions.

3) What are the purposes for which the Company uses your personal data

The Company only collects and processes such of your personal data that is necessary to perform its functions and activities. The Company collects, processes and retains your personal data for purposes which include:-

  • to assist in providing information about a product or providing related services;

  • to consider your request for a product;

  • to enable the Company to provide a product;

  • to tell you about products, related services, promotions or events that may interest you;

  • to assist in arrangements with other organisations both within or outside Singapore, in relation to the promotion and provision of a product;

  • to perform other administrative and operational tasks (including staff training, recruitment, market or customer survey, service improvement and product development);

  • to handle enquiries, audit, complaints or legal proceedings;

  • to prevent or investigate any fraud or crime or a suspected fraud or crime; and

  • as required by the relevant laws and regulations.

The provision of your personal data is voluntary but if you do not provide such personal data, the Company will not be able to process your personal data for the purposes described herein. If you do not consent to the processing of your personal data for such purposes, please notify the Company using the contact details described in Section 5 below. 

4) Classes of Persons whom your personal data may be disclosed to

We may use your personal data to perform functions including data processing, promotional marketing, mailing services and data storage, which may involve sharing your personal data with third parties. Their usage of your personal data is limited only for the purpose of performing these functions and subject to strict confidentiality and data security standards that we have imposed. These are the classes of persons to whom we may need to disclose your personal data:-

  • the Company’s data processors or service providers, within and outside Singapore, engaged to carry out certain functions and activities of the Company;

  • the Company’s professional advisors and external auditors; 

  • the Company’s related and associated companies, within and outside Singapore, their assignees or potential assignees, acquirers or potential acquirers and successors-in-title;

  • the organisations, both within and outside Singapore, which have arrangement or alliance with the Company, for the purpose of promoting or using our products or related services (and any agents used by these organisations in administering such arrangement or alliance);

  • regulatory bodies, government agencies, the police, law enforcement bodies and courts, both within and outside Singapore;

  • other affiliate companies both within or outside Singapore; 

  • your referees and persons who introduce you to the Company;

  • your authorised agents, executor, administrator or legal representative;

  • the Company’s assignees or potential assignees, acquirers or potential acquirers and successors-in-title or other third parties in connection with a corporate transaction such as a sale of a subsidiary or division, merger, consolidation or asset sale; and

  • such persons or bodies to whom the Company is legally required to disclose.

5) How to contact the Company

We will take reasonable steps to keep customer records complete, accurate and up-to-date. If you have any reason to believe that your records with us are inaccurate, incomplete or not updated, or if you wish to request for access or correction of your personal data or make inquiries or complaints regarding our personal data, please write in to us at the following address, upon which we will promptly rectify. 6) Changes to this Privacy Policy

Changes may from time to time be made to this Privacy Policy. We will post notice of material changes on the Company’s website. Please re-visit this Privacy Policy from time to time to learn of any such changes. Continuing to communicate with the Company or use the Company’s products or related services following such changes shall signify your acceptance of such changes.
